The African Road Safety NGOs had participated in the First Global Road Safety Meeting in Belgium in the year 2009 and in Washington DC this year and it is due to this fact that the African NGO’s felt that it was important to have an African Network of NGO’s advocating for road safety. This being the very first meeting, the NGO representatives got straight to business and received positive results including setting the official name for the network i.e. AFRICAN NGOS NETWORK FOR ROAD SAFETY. The group also set aside a day to celebrate African road safety day scheduled to be launched on 31 May 2012. The registration of the network shall be done in Namibia with one representative from each region. An executive team was formed during this meeting for a three-year nonrenewable mandate. Mr. Missimikim Martial from SECUROUTE Cameroon was appointed the official Coordinator with Ms. Casey Marenge appointed as the group treasurer and Mr. Mwebaze Kanaahe Brian - Red Cross Uganda -appointed as the present Communications Officer.
